Sally is one of Britain’s most popular sportswomen. She is the only woman in history to hold all four major track titles concurrently – Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth – plus the 400 metres hurdles world record.
Her career on and off the track provides a unique insight into achieving a life balance, for success and fulfilment. During her career she adopted key principles and routines with her ‘team’, to deliver amazing results.
Since her retirement from athletics through injury, Sally has developed a career as a television presenter as well as working with people to help them achieve their full potential. Sally’s versatility as a presenter outside the sports field is recognised through the highly acclaimed Channel 4 children’s programme Peak Performance, and through ITV’s series’ Body Heat.
Sally also appeared with Colin Jackson and Dermot O’Leary on BBC1’s prime time show Born to Win, as mentor and host in the search for Britain’s next sporting hero.
2004 then saw Sally become sports anchor for South East Today, cover the Olympics in Athens, and the New York Marathon.
Being a mother of three and former athlete, Sally always champions health and fitness, especially for children. In 2006, she worked alongside Raising Kids to draw attention to the growing need for simple and fun ways to keep kids active, and to offer quick and effortless activities that families can do together.
Sally also heads charity events such as Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and continues to fulfil her role as figurehead for the British Heart Foundation where she is involved in a number of their key initiatives.
In 2007 Sally was asked by Flora to lead their group of “Flora First Timers”. Sally took Flora up on their offer and completed her first marathon in 3hours and 50minutes.
Sally has written four books on fitness, self-fulfilment and well-being. She is married to Jon and is mum to three young sons.
Sally Gunnell is a true sporting legend and will inspire you to focus on your objectives in life and persist until you win!
“Keeping fit and healthy is so important especially for young people, if we educate children to lead active lifestyles, they will carry it into adulthood and hopefully then to their own children. There are so many easy and fun ways to keep fit, and London is very lucky to have so many green open spaces in which to do so. The Royal Park’s Foundation’s half marathon is a great way to get involved!”
