Here's what our runner of the month, Davina Glading, had to say about her Half Marathon build-up and experience:
What is your level of running?
I am a beginner, I only started running in April 2011 at the grand old age of 46.
What is your lasting memory from race day?
The camaraderie, although I ran 'on my own' I met so many lovely people, the support was astonishing with people calling my name all around the course. I completed the race with a big smile on my face. It was my first half marathon and one that encouraged me to continue running.
What do you remember seeing along the route?
Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge, plenty of lovely gates, trees, bandstands, Albert Memorial, Royal Albert Hall, and the finish line!
How has running changed your life?
I enjoy life more. I can simply travel anywhere, pull my trainers on and run - what better way to see new cities than early morning as the sun is rising and the city is still waking up. It has also inspired my 8 year old daughter. She enters the 'mini mile' junior races on the same day that I enter all the 'big' runs, and it is starting a (hopefully) life long love of running for her.
How has training for the half marathon improved your health & well-being?
Weight has dropped off (yes, shallow I know!), blood pressure down, blood sugar down, and I have a much more positive outlook on life.
What motivates you to get out of bed and train?
I run in the evenings when I'm at home, with Portsmouth Joggers club. It helps rid me of adrenaline from work-days. If I am away I love to run in the mornings to explore unknown places.
Why do you like running?
It makes me just smile that there is a part of my life that no-one else can control but me. It is totally up to me to put in the effort, no-one can do it for me.
What inspired you to take part in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon?
The route. When else can one have the opportunity to run through such an iconic city and such recognisable landmarks?
What are three things that make the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon stand out from other running events?
Beautiful route, unique medal, everyone (from set-up crew to finish line) was so incredibly friendly.
Why would you encourage people to take part and enter the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon ballot?
No, it would mean I stand less of a chance. Seriously though - yes, without a shadow of a doubt.
What is your top tip for race day?
For the runners, have your name in big letters on your top. The spectators are fantastic and the buzz you get from people cheering on your name is priceless.
Our #CharityTuesday goes out to our #GoldenOak charity partners this year @CR_UK, @MindCharity, @Tommys_baby and @unicef_uk
