Is the 2020 special edition of the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 11 April 2021 cancelled?

The event is not cancelled, but due to the ongoing nature of the Covid-19 pandemic and current restrictions on mass gatherings, for one unique year we’ll be changing things up by bringing the Royal Parks Half to YOU on Sunday 11 April 2021.

So, we’re asking you, our amazing community, to come on this journey with us. This is such a unique position for us to be in; the virus and all its wide-reaching affects has significantly impacted the Royal Parks Half and so many other charity events. Why has this decision been made?

We have explored a number of possibilities, including what a socially distanced event could look like. However, based on the complexities surrounding social distancing at mass participation events, the current Covid situation in the UK, and the potential impact on the NHS, we do not feel it would be appropriate to proceed with the event in its original format. Our re-imagined event will allow runners to complete the special edition of the 2020 Royal Parks Half Marathon safely and within government guidelines while still providing an awesome experience thanks to a new, state-of-the-art Royal Parks Half app, designed specifically for the April event.

What experience can I expect from the Royal Parks Half in April?

The race is coming to you via our brand-new, state-of-the-art Royal Parks Half app, designed specifically for the April event. 

You will receive a unique number that connects you to the app and unlock all of the features that help to re-create the in-person race day experience. This app combines ground-breaking augmented reality technology, with race day tracking to give you a once in a lifetime experience that you simply won’t want to miss.

What's included in your entry?

The April race will re-create as much of the race day experience as possible in your local community.

• All runners will be sent an amazing pre-event race pack that contains: your unique race bib to wear on race day, an exclusive medal to commemorate your achievement, your official Royal Parks Half finisher t-shirt and an awesome sustainable water bottle from Royal Bank of Canada.

• We are bringing the Royal Parks Half to you through a state-of-the-art app, designed specifically for the April event. This brand-new app combines ground-breaking augmented reality technology with an unparalleled digital experience that is designed to mirror as much of the in-person race as possible. Connect with other runners, experience the sights and sounds from the traditional race course, share your race day experiences and try out the latest tech with our cool interactive features. We’ve got so many exciting things that we can’t wait to share with you.

Am I guaranteed a place in a future Royal Parks Half?

As a special thank you for sticking with us and taking part in our April event, any runner that takes part and meets the individual fundraising goal set by their charity, will be offered a guaranteed place in a future Royal Parks Half Marathon at the 2020 public ballot price of £59. Meaning you’ll be able to skip the uncertainties of the ballot draw and get straight in! Your charity will be asked to verify your fundraising amount after the April event. What is happening to the places that people have bought for the special edition of the 2020 Royal Parks Half Marathon (Sunday 11 April)?

All runners and our partners have received an email detailing their options. Ultimately, we’re working to be as flexible as possible with participants so that they have the best possible experience. If, for whatever reason you are unable to take part in the April event,or feel it does not work for you, please get in contact with the Charity, Company or International Tour Operator that you secured your place through, and they will be able to chat to you about your options.
