Our award-winning half marathon event was created in 2008 as an annual fundraising initiative to raise sustainable funds to support London’s eight Royal Parks, as well as an opportunity for charities of all sizes to be involved in a major challenge event.
Over the last four years, the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon has raised an estimated £11m for vital causes around the UK. That’s 365 different partner charities, including the Royal Parks Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Mind, Tommy’s and UNICEF.
The 13.1 mile scenic route winds through four Royal Parks (Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St James’s Park and The Green Park) in all their autumnal splendour. Runners also have the opportunity to take in magnificent views of the capital city and some of its historic landmarks including Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Houses of Parliament and the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2011, 12,500 runners came from across the UK and 30 countries around the world to race through the streets of London with 40,000 spectators and supporters cheering on the participants.
To top it off, in September last year our beautiful city race was chosen as the winner in the Best Outdoor Event category following its significant growth since its launch in 2008. Building on the success of previous years, the 2010 event featured a number of additions that appealed to new demographics while satisfying existing ones. These included the international challenge, which involved the charity working with a number of tourism partners to invite entrants worldwide to take part in the event; a TV documentary for Channel 4; and regular training runs and workshops for participants.
Race day also features Pulse3K, a race to encourage 11-16 year olds to get for their sport outdoors, as well as a scrumptious Food & Fitness Festival for your friends and family enjoy.
